They are looking for an intermediate to senior Legal Assistant to join their Family Law team. The ideal candidate will have good practical training and experience.

Job description

Providing administrative and paralegal assistance to a partner and junior associate in a very busy and fast-paced family law practice.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Preparing and drafting various correspondence, family law agreements, various court documents and pleadings
  • Setting court dates, mediations, discoveries, trials and communicating with court registries and opposing counsel
  • Arranging court filings and applications
  • Tracking court and limitation dates
  • Assisting with the preparation of court applications, trial briefs, application records, trial exhibits
  • Maintaining lawyer calendars, scheduling client appointments, email management, maintaining a bring forward (“BF”) system­­
  • File management (opening and closing)
  • Monthly billing
  • Dicta-typing
  • Time entry where applicable
  • Regular interaction with clients
  • General administrative duties as required

Qualifications

  • a minimum of 3+ years experience working in a busy law firm, preferably within a family law and/or litigation environment
  • have excellent computer skills including experience with MS Word, FileSite and Divorcemate
  • be extremely reliable and able to work both independently and as a team member
  • be able to multi-task, prioritize, and work under pressure in a fast paced and challenging environment
  • have excellent written and oral English communication skills
  • have strong analytical and organizational skills
  • have a strong work ethic, be proactive in nature and show keen initiative.
