Estate Planning and Corporate Paralegal (Surrey)

They currently have an opportunity available for an Estate Planning and Corporate Paralegal working in their Wills and Estates department.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Estate Planning

  • Administer files from start to finish
  • Maintain bring forward system
  • Prepare, draft, review, and file various legal documents including but not limited to wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements, statutory declarations, joint partner trusts, alter-ego trusts, ancillary documents, and land transfer documents
  • Undertaking a minute book review and facilitating any necessary corporate reorganizations for estate planning clients with corporate assets
  • Attend estate planning meetings and work collaboratively with Lawyers and Legal Administrative Assistants on preparation of and finalization of documents as required
  • Coordinate the delivery and receipt of draft documents to clients and address all questions or comments and apply applicable changes if required

Tax & Corporate

  • Administer files from start to finish
  • Maintain bring forward system
  • Prepare, draft, review, and file various legal documents relating to tax planning, family trusts, other trusts, and corporate transactions and changes and prepare other legal documentation and reporting documents to clients and accountants
  • Work collaboratively with estate administration paralegals and draft documents to effect share transmissions to executors, transfers to beneficiaries, and change of directorships in the case of the death of a shareholder or director
  • Communicate and work with accountants on tax planning and corporation transactions
  • Finalization of all documents for signature and attendance on the update of corporate records

The successful candidate will have:

  • Completed the Paralegal program at an accrediated institution
  • 3-5 years of experience, specifically in the areas of estate planning, tax planning, and corporate, and a track record in producing high quality work in a fast paced environment
  • Prior experience with billing
  • Working knowledge of BC Online, Dye & Durham, LTSA, Time Matters, and PC Law
  • The ability to work independently in a team based environment
  • A self starter approach showing initiative and the ability to anticipate the next step
  • Strong client service skills
  • The ability to multi-task
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

The position is available to start immediately with some overlap with current staff.
