LAA/Paralegal Hybrid (Litigation)

We are assisting our client an established litigation firm in downtown Vancouver recruit a full-time legal administrative assistant/paralegal hybrid who will perform a variety of paralegal/legal admin assistant activities with minimal instructions and who will follow through on producing a high standard of correspondence and documents within set time lines.  The areas of practice include, class actions, commercial litigation, construction defect litigation, employment law, environmental law, intellectual property, condominium law and insurance law.

They are looking for someone who will be able to manage a multi-lawyer practice with the assistance of a legal administrative assistant and administrative assistant.


  • Critical thinking skills, a high level of initiative, and proactive approach to problem solving
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments, produce quality accurate work, and meet set time lines
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent team player who willingly supports others in the achievement of the firms objectives
  • Understands the importance of client service and demonstrates continuously
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Calendar, Excel, and Word are essential skills. Familiarity with Worldox, PCLaw and Summation, or similar programs, would be a definite asset

Responsibilities – Paralegal/Legal Assistant

  • Performs paralegal/legal assistant activities in various areas of law for all courts: Small Claims, Supreme, and Court of Appeal
  • Prepare correspondence and a variety of legal documents ensuring compliance with legal procedures and grammatical usage
  • Conducts research of records, court files and other legal documents.  May assist lawyers by interviewing clients and other related parties, assembling documentary evidence and arranging for trials
  • Maintains a well-organized work environment and implements efficient processes that minimize lawyers administrative load and ensures ease of reference to client documents
  • Performs administrative activities required to complete the legal processes including: sending/receiving faxes, attending to BC Online/LTSA searches
  • Coordinates and performs tasks for the lawyers including making appointments, responding to clients, booking meetings and boardrooms, booking travel, organizing conference calls, hotel arrangements, registration for seminars and courses

Team Acitivities

  • Closes files in PCLaw, attends to write-offs, printing of general and trust ledgers for each file, inputting data to Iron Mountain data base, coding files and preparing closed files sheets, stripping files for sending to storage and return original documents to clients, maintaining records for closed file system;
  • Supports troubleshooting of office equipment, attending to dealing with building manager, computer technician, morning downloading-cost recover, back-up tape when necessary;
  • Supports team activities by working collaboratively to implement staff, social and client activities, including:  organize office lunches, seminars and venues/catering, and other adhoc events.

Qualifications – Education and Experience

  • Completion of a legal admin assistant diploma plus a minimum of two years of legal admin assistant experience or completion of a paralegal diploma course


Salary: $45,000-65,000 depending on experience.
